Resumen: A bacteriological study on 50 out-patients presenting with othorrea was performed prospectively at Carlos Haya University Hospital in Malaga ( Spain) between October 2002 and january 2003. A total of 63 isolates were recovered. Staphylococcus was found in 16 (32%) and Pseudomonas in 13 (26%) isolates. Pseudomonas was found to be the most common pathogen (30%) in otitis externa. The incidence of otomycosis was of note (22%) compared with other studies. Two of 13 Pseudomonas isolates were resistant to quinolones and gentamycin. Two of 16 Staphylococci showed low susceptibility to gentamycin and three to quinolones. However, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus was only found in one case.
